Investing WHY

Your Investing WHY
ISSUE #6
Originally this weeks issue was going to dive a little more and expand upon goal setting for investing and life planning in general.
On Wednesday, I received some news about a co-worker that rocked me and sent me down a rabbit hole of thinking. So many questions continued to just pop up in my head like jumping from one problem to the next. Eventually my mind shifted and I began to think about why I invest. While I was sitting in traffic after work this week, I sat there pondering about my goals, reasoning, actions and choices.
For me, investing has not been about creating a huge pile of cash as quickly as possible or because money makes me happy. As stated in last weeks newsletter issue, I grew up clueless about investing and the concepts of the stock market. Teaching myself about all the possibilities that the stock market can provide has been quite an exhilarating experience over the past 5 years. In that time learning about investing, stocks, funds, options, dividends, CDs and soooo many other concepts I began to realize how much of an impact investing can have on catapulting someone’s wealth. After determining my own risk tolerance I began to invest for myself.. after a few months a bigger picture started to appear like a giant canvas in front of me of what I can do to set up for not only my future but my wife’s and my family’s as well.
A few weeks ago Toms the Savings Captain touched upon the topic of the Investing Why, ever since that time I have noticed more and more people on X, discuss their reasoning for investing and the goals they want to obtain by the end of year. My Investing WHY has more clarity than ever this week due to the events that occurred. Sure I have portfolio goals and milestones, it’s the best way to ensure that you are objectively on the path toward achieving the vision you have for your future and investments. But when we talk about investing why, I am talking about the core, a feeling of why you are doing all the research, the planning, the hours spent on accumulation knowledge and insight.
I would argue that the reason why an individual invests is more of an emotional concept, which is funny since a solid approach to investing is to be not emotional and look at the data. That being said.. you should always be comfortable with your investments so you don’t lose sleep at night 😆 .
My reason for investing, my why, as previously mentioned has become clear and concise than ever this past week.
I invest to reduce the amount of years working at my career so that I can live my own life to my own accord. This is to spend more time with family, provide security for my family, open options/opportunities for my family that weren’t available to me, and see more of what the world has to offer.
I don’t want my entire life to be spent working to then sit around in pain and old for a few years and then retire from life. I want to experience more.
I want my family, wife and daughter to have the option to do what they want how and when they want.
This upcoming week… more than ever.. think about your investing why.. the reason behind everything you do that gives you motivation and inspiration
Complacency is a Curse, Consistency is King, Clarity is Essential.
Reach out to me on X (@DividendRoots) and let me know about your why, I would love to read about it.
I would like to wrap this up on a happier tone, maybe with a good joke, possibly my favorite…
Do you want to hear about the broken pencil?
Nevermind, there is no point.
You can always reach out to me through email ([email protected]) or through X or Twitter @DividendRoots… I don’t know what to call it…

X Profile Spotlight :
The spotlight for this week is awarded to @DividendKingTSX. Dividend King was another person that I met around the time I started with X. He is the definition of a hustler and grinder when it comes to getting things done. Through one of his multiple accounts he is always posting solid content for people to enjoy. I suggest you check out his cooking account, quote website and book that he released!

I reached out to King, and asked him What is your “investing Why” (or multiple if you have them) , and why is it so meaningful to you? He responded with
My investing why is rooted in securing a future of financial freedom, granting me the flexibility to choose meaningful work, take necessary breaks for family moments, and ultimately, ensuring comfort and well-being for myself and my loved ones.
King’s response resonated with the concepts discussed in this weeks newsletter! I believe that we all should have a solid Why, for the things that we do in out everyday lives.
