GOAL SETTING ESSENTIALS

Nourish Your Roots Newsletter

Goal Setting Essentials how to create, track and Achieve.

 ISSUE #2

Thinking back to when I was younger and saw a person juggling for the first time, I thought it would be so simple, just tossing the balls around in the air and catching them before they hit the ground. …… After about 20 seconds I realized it was much much more complex.. at least for me. There was a pattern that needed to be followed and my hand eye coordination was just not connecting. So I gave myself a goal that by the end of the month I would be able to juggle for a minute without dropping a ball. Along the way I made small goals for myself like 1 complete pattern, 10 seconds, 30 seconds and so on. Eventually by the end of the month I was learning extra tricks and different juggling patterns… to this day I carry juggling balls with me everywhere I go because I always find it helps keep me busy and keep my skills sharp.

I always tend to start any new endeavor when I talk on a platform by discussing Goals or Milestones. They are an essential part of everything I do and I strongly believe that good goal setting techniques will lend itself to helping you achieve anything you want to accomplish. There are many different methods of tracking and developing goals. Either short or long term goals and how you create your roadmap for your journey can only be determined by you and your will to follow your milestones.

For me the SMART method has always been my favorite method of creating goals.

S- Specific, M- Measurable, A- Attainable, R- Relevant, T- Time Bound

I tend to make my goals around these concepts. An example of this would be

“By the end of 2023, my dividend portfolio will have crossed a threshold of paying out annual dividends over $4000.”

Everyone’s goals are unique to their own situations. I strongly suggest the next time you are about to set out on a new task, take a moment and create 3 short term goals and 1 long term goal..at least this is a template for you to follow. Unless you have your own method of developing goals, then please reach out and share! I am always excited to hear about new concepts.

You can always reach out to me through email ([email protected]) or through X or Twitter @DividendRoots… I don’t know what to call it…

X Profile Spotlight :

The spotlight for this week is awarded to @Smartnetworth1. When I first started my time posting on X, Nick was one of the first people I met, and I am glad I did, the content he puts out is positive and shows his passion for dividend investing! If you have not already, I STRONGLY suggest you give this content creator a follow, you won’t regret it!

This week I had a chance to talk with Nick about his views on goals and how they helped him on the beginning of his investing journey?

Nick responded with “ When I first started investing, setting goals was very important to me. It allowed me to stay consistent and focus on making moves towards that goal. I always looked at goal setting as a form of accountability, which I feel as always kept me sharp. I remember setting a goal of getting to $2000 of dividend income in one year, I kept that goal fresh in my mind everyday, thought about it and kept pushing forward getting closer and closer. If I didn’t establish that goal, I probably wouldn’t have hit it as fast or learned the value of being disciplined over time. Always set goal, always strive to be better. That’s what I’ve always done.”

So this week, I ask each of you reading this to look at Nick’s words and think about your own goals and see how goals helped shape your journey.
